Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency said on Wednesday that it started repairs on a 14 km section of the bypass road of the country's second-largest city of Plovdiv worth an estimated 25 million levs ($15.4 million/12.8 million euro).

The agency will finance the road infrastructure project with its own funds, it said in a statement.

Works on the bypass road section will include cold-in-place recycling of the existing asphalt pavement and the laying of new asphalt-concrete pavement, as well as the upgrade of road drainage systems, the laying down of new horizontal road markings and the installation of new road containment systems and road signs.

Last year, the agency launched a tender worth an estimated 42 million levs for the construction of the southern bypass road of Plovdiv.
