The Greens presented their climate plan at an online conference on 5th August. With the plan, they want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions faster than what the Federal Council and Parliament have currently planned.
New climate plan is more ambitious
This new climate plan has greater ambitions for reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Switzerland should become climate positive by 2040, as the party announced in a video conference on 5th August.
For this purpose, the plan proposes an improvement in energy efficiency and the increased use of renewable energies. Technologies that enable negative emissions should be adopted, for example, in the domain of forestry, timber harvesting or waste recycling.
Historical blame for climate crisis
If this climate plan is implemented, from 2040 more emissions are to be removed from the atmosphere than are emitted. The Green Switzerland said that the country should use this to reduce its historical debt for the climate crisis.
But the party does not want to limit itself to its own ideas. It calls on the population to take part in the discussion about environmental protection on a website. The feedback from the population served to clarify questions and to further develop the climate plan, as stated by the Greens party.
